Bicao was Madam Qin's personal maid and confidant. Bicao was evidently loyal enough to earn a status as Madam Qin's most trusted maid. Qin Su likewise trusted her absolutely. However, in the present day, Bicao is willing to reveal Madam Qin's secret for material gain. When her mistress became depressed after her daughter Qin Su's engagement to Jin Guangyao, Bicao attempted to comfort her mistress, to no avail. One evening, Madam Qin surprised Bicao by insisting that her maid accompany her to speak with Jin Guangyao, though Bicao did not witness the conversation. She notes that Madam Qin's seemed in better spirits forwards, only to faint upon realizing that the wedding would still occur. After her daughter's marriage, Madam Qin fell ill. When she was close to death, she confided the truth to Bicao: that Qin Su was not Qin Cangye's daughter at all, but the product of Jin Guangshan's rape. Thus, Qin Su and Jin Guangyao were half-brother and half-sister. Approximately twelve to thirteen years later, Bicao accompanies Sisi to Lotus Pier following the Second Siege of the Burial Mounds to reveal what she knows. She claims she came forward because she wanted justice for Qin Su after her husband killed her; however, Wei Wuxian countered that Qin Su had actually killed herself because she could not handle the truth. He then notices that the bracelet Bicao wears looked too expensive for a maid, and Bicao quickly tries to hide it – implying that she has actually revealed the truth for jewelry, not righteousness. It was later strongly implied that Nie Huaisang is the mastermind who paid Bicao to tell the truth to Qin Su and the entire cultivation world.
